Our area was hit hard by devastating tornados and severe storms last week and many homeowners were left with significant damage or the complete loss of their home. They have a long road to recovery from the losses they have endured.
These unfortunate events can be a reminder for everyone to be sure you understand your insurance policies.
Here are some considerations:
- Does your policy include rental house insurance to cover a place to live while your home is being restored?
- Do your policies cover the cost of a rental car if your vehicles are totaled?
- Is water damage to your property covered? If there are no wind clips on the trusses, and this is discovered by the adjustor, it could present problems for your coverage.
- Cosmetic damage, such as dings on windows and roofs, are now subject to a new state law as of Jan. 1, 2024 and coverage is at the discretion of your insurance company.
- Many insurance companies no longer cover metal damage and minor roof damage, be sure to understand what is included in your policy.
