Before the school year ended, John had the opportunity to speak to the students at Alphonza W. Davis Middle School in Omaha, NE. Weatherguard Inc. was one of several local companies to participate in the Career Fair for the middle school students, which was designed to increase their awareness of the wide variety of career paths available to them.
John shared the history of Weatherguard Inc. with the students and why he decided to start his own business. He emphasized the importance of working hard to build a business that is successful, and that treating people fairly is the best way to build trust among clients and coworkers.
The students were also interested to hear how John juggles his time between the roofing and siding business and working as a NCAA men’s basketball referee. He shared stories about the Final Four basketball tournaments that he has officiated, and the excitement of college sports.
John believes that honesty and hard work have helped him be successful with both Weatherguard Inc. and as a basketball official. He encouraged the students to work hard, stay in school, and choose a career that allows them to do what they love to do!
